Star chef behind BaneGaarden's new food stall
Matt Orlando's AFC opens on July 4th at BaneGaarden
Star chef behind mouthwatering food stall and pop up restaurant in the city's green oasis
One of the most influential chefs in the country, Matt Orlando, is behind the concept AFC, which was born as a sidekick to the Michelin-starred restaurant AMASS on Refshaleøen. AFC stands for AMASS Fried Chicken, and after a year of dormancy, its gourmet little sister is now opening as a food stall as part of the food market in the city's green oasis between Sydhavnen and Vesterbro with its first opening day on July 4, 2023 and pop-up restaurant throughout July.
New home but same menu
Until last summer, you could get crispy, crunchy organic chicken between the raised beds in the kitchen garden on Refshaleøen. Now AFC is reborn in another of the city's green oases, BaneGaarden, Copenhagen's new food and culture destination in Jernbanebyen.
On the opening day, July 4 from 12 noon, a free glass of sparkling natural wine will be served to the first 100 guests who visit the AFC food stall at BaneGaarden. In addition to the food stall, the AFC concept led by Matt Orlando will take over the TICKET restaurant at BaneGaarden throughout July. You can get your fingers greasy with either the classic fried chicken or the vegetarian equivalent, fried oyster mushrooms - both served with dips from heaven and a juicy coleslaw.
Greasy fingers and a clear conscience
Matt Orlando has been at the forefront of sustainable fine dining for decades - primarily through his popular restaurant AMASS, which was created to raise the bar for a responsible dining experience, both socially and for our climate. AMASS earned great recognition, including several placements in the top 100 list of the world's best restaurants.
The mission to drive and inspire green transition through taste is shared by BaneGaarden, which was started with the vision of creating a platform for sustainable development: "It's always been a thought in the back of my mind. What would AFC look like outside of Amass? The normal street food markets around the city just didn't feel right. Then BaneGaarden happened. A place with which we share so many of the same values. Come and experience AFC revitalized this summer. See you out there!", Matt Orlando.
